This weekend marked my film debut in The Things We See When We're Not Looking (at least I think thats the title,
I didn't write it down, someone correct me). I got to be the extra-like "Cell Phone Guy" who walks down the street, runs into
a main character, and sets off this little situation you see above. The guy on the left gets mad at the girl in the middle and hits her (yes, for real) and the movie is about the
girl on the right's decision to intervene or not once it escalates.

The problem with filming a movie that involves abuse is people on the street think
it's actually happening if they don't see the camera (and none of them do). The guy pictured was just a guy joking around telling the guy what he
woulda done if it were real. We did have some actual run-ins with people that weren't joking. We had one guy going to a karate class
that stepped up and said "let her go" and did a little Superman pose. Following that we made extra sure to let everyone know what was going on.
But we couldn't get everyone and we had two guys that were driving down main street actually get out of their truck. They got half way to the scene before it ended
and they realized what was going on. The people at the 16 Hands gallery were very nice to have let us filmed out front.

The film itself was shot by some Film 229 students for their class.

Some of the crew members.

A version where the girl tries to stop the guy. Note the director smiling in the background.

Blocking in the shot.

The guy gets pretty mad, throws the shopping bags

The bags took a beating.
We ran really well on the production schedule; the on-street filming
only took 3 hours or so.
So they got a coupla close-ups to round it off and finished around 3. That was it for me, but
they went on to go film stuff for the rest of the day. The film itself is a silent black and white film around 7 minutes long.
The filming went really well and we were all pretty happy at the end of the shoot
