Given the title of this entry, I bet you can guess how this story ends. But
I'm sure you wanna hear the whole story, so let's get going. This is the ring I bought for Karen
last Friday: it's exactly what I was looking for. Stephanie, Katie, and Amber came
with me when I went so they could give input and any necessary help. Plus they got
to have fun trying on rings. Ciara and Demoree were sneaky and figured out her ring size, so I
had the ring all ready for her finger. After traveling to Livonia to talk to her parents, I was all set to go.
Karen had no clue it was coming. She just thought that Saturday we were going
on a nice date. I took her to Oasis, this place that advertises "vacations" for families and people looking
to get away from the winter weather an hour at a time.
Afterward, we stopped at Karen's work to mess around with editing her apartment's Christmas video and then
went out to dinner. While everyone else goes to Chop House or the Gandy Dancer before they get engaged,
Karen and I went to Bob Evans. Yes, Bob Evans. It's like our place. We always get the same thing and sit
and do an acrostic puzzle while we eat.
Once we got back to her apartment, I got my camera out so I could take photos of this
blanket I sewed her for Christmas. As you can tell by my oh-so-straight stitching, I have
no need for sewing machines. Anyhow, I didn't have any photos of it, so it made for a good
reason to have my camera out.
When Karen came into the room I told her I wanted to talk to her about something and
launched into this big story that I'll just gloss unsatisfyingly here. Basically I told her
I loved her and didn't want to live without her. And then I asked. I opened the box, almost forgetting to
drop to one knee.
Karen said "Yes!! Like I would ever say no!" and seconds after I was taking photos. Who else do you know
that would take photos like this? One for the scrapbook.
This is Zooey seconds after telling her.
After you get engaged, you spend a lot of time on the phone telling everyone how
ridiculously happy you both are.
Happy happy :)
Look: it's me and my fiancée!
[By the way who else do you know that would take some of his own engagement photos
using a timer and a bookshelf?]
After we took some photos we headed to Barnes and Noble to buy a wedding planning book. We're
still busy working out a date, but sometime this fall we're gonna get married!
Have I mentioned how happy we are? :-D
