Mike Hulsebus Photography: Raising Monarch Butterflies

I'm in Grandville for a little while, where the family has been raising monarch butterflies from caterpillars. You can see my dad's photos of the whole process on his website. I got back to Grandville in time to see the butterflies come out of the chrysalis and fly away.

Out they go into the world.

My dad happened upon this thing on a walk and brought him home on a leaf. His best guess is that its an American dagger moth caterpillar. Look closely to see the red feet.

Pretty much the backyard has plenty of nature to photograph

I read this photo-related boing boing post (with a better photo than this i might add) about the hummingbird hawkmoth and was pretty amazed. But turns out they're in the backyard too.

All sorts of colorful flowers in the backyard and I photograph the ones that are coming out of season.
