Mike Hulsebus Photography: Cat Birthday Party as Zooey Turns One Year Old
Zooey the cat turned one year old on Sunday. We petitioned Cuba to replace
Fidel Castro's 80th birthday festivities with Zooey's 1st birthday celebrations after we heard that the ailing president had canceled them,
but they declined. So instead, Ann Arbor held its own festivities.
You know how when a baby turns one year old, you have to carry them around and
open their presents for them? It was kinda like that. (btw, doesn't this picture look like Zooey's looking up at the photo above her?)
Karen brings out the birthday cake.
Unfortunately it turned out that Zooey wasn't interested in her cake. When we put it down on the ground
she moved her paw across the linoleum like she was trying to cover up the cake with litter (really). She didn't even eat
the treats off the top of the cake. It's the same food she ate as a kitten, but apparently she has new opinions on it.
Blowing out the candles
Zooey got her share of cards and gifts. I got her this gibbon, which she enjoyed biting, licking, and carrying around
In the future, Demoree will give gifts of socks and underwear to her nieces. I'm sure Zooey will appreciate having scissors
that work well though--she hates getting her claws trimmed.
Zooey plays with Ciara's dangly feather gift
This ones sort of out of focus, but I couldn't not include it: Zooey leaping for the feather. Have you ever seen a straighter tail?
Karen got Zooey a harness and leash. Zooey doesn't like having something around her neck.
Zooey had never left the Beach House porch until today. It was eye-opening. With all the excitement going on, she didn't mind
the collar so much any more.
Zooey discovers her affinity for rolling around on dirt.
Even though she didn't like the cake, I'm sure Zooey had lots of fun on her birthday. Or at least we had a lot of fun for her.
