The Problem with Football Seating at the Big House

This weekend Michigan football had its 102nd meeting against Ohio State here in Ann Arbor. I went with this crew of folks at left plus a few others. Technically my seat is sec 25 row 24 seat 3 with Joel and Spencer. This week both of them were outta town, so I went w/ Hayley's crew, a group of maybe 8 or more people that sit three rows back in row 27. Oddly enough, their group in row 27 is split in half by a random guy who got tickets alone, also known as "the rand."

We've got "good" seats, by which I mean close seats. The problem with having seats close to the action is everyone high up tries to cram down into your seats; pairs of people will invite their three friends from row 76 to come down and cram in. So normally everyone down there's gotta stand sideways to fit everybody in. On top-a this, usually you get to your seats to find that someone's always filled em in. And since we're more prone to blacking eyes with a stick of grease than with fists, theres really not much you can do except go find someone else's open seats and hope that they're frat boys that got too sick before the game to make it. I mean, saying "waaa, these are our seeeeats" is lame and not done.

Surprisingly enough, we found our section of seats pretty clear. We all nabbed spots and actually had enough room to face forward and have some breathing room. Then with about a minute left in the first quarter, two girls came telling us that we were all in their seats. People do this sometimes, people that don't realize how things work. Normally you give em whatever space you can offer for them to squeeze in. These people, on the other hand, felt that they deserved their entire spots.

I mean what can ya do, they were their seats.

We were too nice so we weren't gonna refuse or anything, and besides, these two (and their four other friends) were serious and the kinda people that'd probably go and get the powers that be. So we cramed a row back, and they sat with their legs all spread apart with room to do stuff like move their arms around

Ok, so thats bad enough, but then one-a the girls sat mosta the game. Sat. Anyone that's sat down for a split section can tell ya that all you can see sittin down is the butts of the people in fronta you. If you're sittin down you're a waste of good quality standin room.

I mean theres not really much you can do about the squish-age of Michigan football really, but it makes the game considerably less fun to be at when you can't really move around--a shame they can't do much

As it stands right now, I can see I've got way more photos on the left than I have text here on the right, but I'm not gonna ramble till I fill this up. (btw, if you don't see this page in two columns, put your screen in a higher resolution mode)

Making paragraphs shorter does make space go by faster though.

Anyhow, I will say though that it's amazing how much people emotionally invest themselves in football. I mean after the game people were hugging each other, guys were throwing stuff around in anger, and I heard a little 8th gradeish kid say "My life sucks".
